if you wanna try, there's no worse you could do
john hodgman to appear on bsg. cameos are always at least kinda neat, but i think hodgman could be pretty great.

io9 on timecrimes. i saw a bunch of nacho vigalondo's short film work at fantastic fest this past weekend and i'm really glad i did - he's goofy and iconoclastic enough to be very endearing, but he can back that up with good if occasionally amateurish filmmaking.

man, i would like to hear jarvis cocker lecture about songwriting.

this typophile thread speculates about possible ligatures for wtf and lol. for those who may not already know, ligatures are characters that combine letters, which can mean something like a special character that replaces the letters fl so that they don't bump against each other in an ugly way, or it can mean something like the @ symbol (combining a and t - that's the sort of thing they're discussing here).

of course, when it comes to the connecting-letters sort of ligature, baskerville digital revival mrs. eaves is the undisputed champ. though if a more ligature-y typeface exists, i actively want to know.

p.s. speak up on bell centennial. i have always loved bell centennial, aka the phonebook typeface. also a big inspiration for the rightfully well-hyped display face amplitude.

yikes, i hadn't thought of that. but it means tying things together, which is what a ligature is supposed to do (more so than garrotting somebody).

A nice wtf ligature could be really pretty--the letters just go together nicely.

Still nothing to watch until January! I need my shows. I've never wanted a year to be over so badly.

I'm always absolutely fascinated by things like telephone book fonts from outside of the U.K. which are completely unfamiliar to me but perhaps go unremarked upon where they're from. Recently read an illustrated essay on Dutch 'phone book fonts...
