interview meme from sue!

here are the rules:
1. leave me a comment saying, "interview me."
2. i will respond by asking you 5 questions of a very personal nature.
3. you will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. you will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. when others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.

here's the questions i got from my lovely sister [info]pastels_badge:

1. how do you feel about the institution of marriage at this point? think you'd ever want to take part in it?
i'm a bit ambivalent but not completely set against it. i guess that means that unless my ideas change i quite possibly would never actually get married, because i'm not especially motivated to do so.
here comes a huge digression, by the way. i know many very lovely married people, and the people i know and like don't do such lame things, but i am very sick of a certain underlying attitude i see among women (maybe men do it sometimes, but i've never seen it so far). basically it's an attitude that they are special because they are married. because somebody wanted to marry them that gives them self-worth as well as a healthy dose of superiority. i would like to point out to those women (and to any men that have a similar brain problem) that if they are special that might be related to why their spouse values them highly, but it would be their specialness that makes them special, not a ring and a dress and a piece of paper, or even heaven forbid the approval of a particular man.
i just worry that if i ever do get married i might do something like that, though i know its avoidable since my real friends who are married never do it.
2. do you ever think about getting a pet?
yeah. i thought about it a bit more just recently, but i realized that duder will never really be able to live well with another animal around. i won't live there forever, though, so when i do move i'll give it some serious thought again. i kind of want to take walter the orange kitten - he is getting the cutest little face-shape now.
3. i assume you probably have at least one idea for another tattoo at this point. if so, what is it / are they?
i kind of want to flesh out the bird on my left arm, either with some kind of purely aesthetic flourishes or possibly even that old idea i've always had in reserve, john r. neill (oz illustrator)-style poppies. but i tend to think i'd taper off after the left arm. maybe that's what you always think - one more, one more.
4. if somebody asked you to play drums in a band, would you be interested? (assuming it was someone you liked and you thought they'd do good work.)
if it was going to be fun and they didn't mind that i'm an amateur, yeah. if it seemed patronizing or like they had false impressions about my abilities that would be bad news. if april ever moves back (fingers crossed) i'd play with her again. i don't think we can use frank's garage anymore, though.
5. if you went back to school, what would you want to study? information design, generally or specifically. i still think about this program at carnegie mellon sometimes. i just don't know if i really need to go back to school, and i really don't know about moving to a strange city by myself.

coming up with questions is hard! anyway, i hope these meet with your approval.

1. i hope it's okay that i will always think of you as james datapanik even with a different lj name. i was just reading rip it up and start again, the part about pere ubu specifically. i'm guessing datapanik was a pere ubu reference even though it's been used a few other times - what did it mean (generally and/or to you)?
2. when i was younger i seriously contemplated becoming a librarian, and my mom is in the field. what made you want to pursue it?
3. what was the first band you really got into?
4. you seem to be pretty firm in your attachment to nyc, but if you had to live in another town what would it be?
5. when are you guys going to come down to austin and see an alamo drafthouse screening?

now that you've just answered susan's...

1. what's the last noteworthy thing tommy did? (in a pretty loose sense of noteworthy.)
2. when did you decide you wanted to be a writer?
3. what's your favorite doctor who episode?
4. is there a secret mary jessica dark side?
5. when are you guys coming to visit texas already? i know several people who would make it as easy as possible, and my list of vegan things i want to feed you guys is getting kinda long.

duder is what i call the cat, $500/moondango/multiple-name cat. he's super shy and would never come around if there was a dog or another cat. i'll see if i can come up with some questions for you a little later...

1) is totally avoidable. c and i don't do it, and i don't think you would either should the occasion arise. it's a mark of insecurity, like parents who try to pressure their happily-childless friends to have kids. hey, it's not their fault you made a permanent decision that you regret.

thanks for the reassurance. it's nice to see people like you guys who seem happy and secure with your choices; that always helps any anxieties i may have.
